Title: Little Blue Book (3/14)
Author: [info]shining_moment
Characters/Pairing: Doctor,Donna
Rating: G
Spoilers: Set during S4 but, apart from that, a spoiler-free chapter.
Summary: I suppose he thought that, if we looked like we’d been hanging upside down, we may as well actually hang upside down...
Word Count: 756
Disclaimer: I don't own Donna, the Doctor or any of the other various random people/things mentioned in this chapter.
Author's Notes: I should say that I mean absolutely no offence to William Shatner! I once made the mistake of listening to David, Catherine and Phil Collinson's commentary on 'Partners in Crime' while I was on the bus and Catherine's William Shatner comment made me laugh out loud- not always ideal on the bus! So the reference to it in this chapter is just a little shout out to Catherine for making me giggle on the 319 bus :)

Playing catch-up? Chapter One Here
                                  Chapter Two Here

In case anyone ever does get their hands on this little book and thinks it’s the ramblings of a mad woman, I’ve decided to write down what we did today, just to prove it isn’t all new worlds and strange creatures and bloody running. Today, we just stayed home. Yep, stayed here, in the TARDIS, and it was great, like a winter Sunday back on Earth. Well, a winter Sunday in a big blue police box.

I got out of bed and, as usual, he was awake already and sitting at the kitchen table working his way through an enormous pot of coffee. If I didn’t know differently and he hadn’t been wearing his PJs, I’d swear he never slept. Anyway, I snagged what was left of the coffee, it’s hardly like he needs to be any more hyper, and then I asked what the plan for the day was…big mistake, apparently. Well, how was I to know he never lands anywhere on Sundays?! Too boring, he said. Right then, now I know.

So, he decided we weren’t going to get dressed today, we were staying in our PJs, which was fine with me, I love PJ days, used to have them with Dad while Mum used to tut at us, horrified at such terrible laziness. To be honest, I have a feeling that even if I’d got up every Sunday and run a half marathon, Mum would have just asked why I couldn’t manage a whole one.

Staying in PJs might have been fine but what wasn’t fine was when he said that, as part of our Doctor and Donna relaxation day, he had decided we shouldn’t comb our hair. Him, the vainest man in the Universe when it comes to his hair! Think Amy Winehouse and Worzel Gummidge on the worst of their Bad Hair Days and you’re almost there. I swear I even heard the TARDIS giggling and I wouldn’t have blamed her.

I suppose he thought that, if we looked like we’d been hanging upside down, we may as well actually hang upside down so…we played Twister. Here’s the thing he didn’t know though, I am great at Twister, really great, something the Doctor realised somewhere between ending up between my thighs and ending up flat on his face. Oh dear, turns out the Doctor doesn’t like to lose and after a while I couldn’t cope with his sulking (even his cute pouting was wearing thin) so I suggested Hot Dogs.

The Doctor thinks Hot Dogs are brilliant and the more mustard and onions the better. Hot Dogs and chocolate milk- food of champions. Well, champions and 5 year old boys.

He knows I keep this diary- he’s sitting next to me while I write this watching Star Trek or Star Wars or something, I never can remember which one of those things is which no matter how many times he tells me. I don’t really get why he watches this Sci-Fi stuff anyway-what we do is way more exciting than all that, William Shatner could only dream of a walk-on part in our lives.

I keep thinking that I wish Gramps could see me now so that he could really understand what I meant when I said I was waiting, not drifting. Yeah, I was waiting for the Doctor so he could show me new planets, times long gone and the weirdest looking creatures you could ever imagine but days like this are just as exciting. Even eating Hot Dogs and playing Twister with him is more fun than anything else has ever been because, well, it‘s just always good with him.

I can picture Mum shaking her head but I know Gramps would get it. He knows that normal was never enough for me and I think he’s just happy now that I’ve found my place, found what it is that I was looking for. All those restless years I was temping, going from place to place because I never found anything I loved enough to commit to permanently. If only I’d realised I was never going to find what I was looking for in an office…I panic about that sometimes, what would happen if for some reason my plan to be with the Doctor forever fell apart and I ended up back there, back in that life.

I can’t think about that, I just can’t, so I’m going to close this little book of mine and pretend I know what’s going on in Star Wars. Or Star Trek. Or whatever.

That commentary is funny the whole way through but I managed not to cackle out loud on the bus until the William Shatner comment. There's just something about the way she announces how nice it was of him to make a cameo that just cracked me up, especially as the other 2 are all "where?!" LOL.

Glad you liked the chapter- thanks :)

[tv: doctor who] donna/doctor sunglasses

I haven't listened to any of the commentaries on the series 4 episodes yet, but I really must! *runs off to d/l them*

The idea of Donna and the Doctor playing twister sends too many thoughts through my mind, haha, but what an awesome image!! ;)

I love that she's thinking of home as she's writing, especially the mention of Gramps. The last bit about panicking about going back to her old life - well, that just tugs at my heart strings!

Oh, the Partners in Crime one is just pure entertainment from start to finish- completely brilliant.

Hee at the Twister thoughts ;)

I laughed at the commentary too because when I watched PiC I had the same initial reaction to that scene. Love the story and the spooky foreshadowing makes my heart ache.
